Welcome to the first of many Quick Lick guitar lessons! My aim with these is to provide easy to learn licks that you can incorporate into your every day chop library. Overtime, the more of these you learn and adapt, the more you can express yourself in your own solos on the fly.

This first quick lick is a simple but speedy rock lick and comes courtesy of the E Minor Blues scale. E is a common key you’ll encounter a lot in popular rock music which is why we’re starting with something that you can instantly put to good use. I’ve taken inspiration from the likes of Gary Moore and EVH here, with a rapid fire repeating motif that pedals on the flat 5th note in the Em blues scale (Ab) while also incorporating the 5th and 7th note of the scale. Make sure to warm those fingers up before you attempt this at full tempo (a fiery 172 bpm!). And if you need some guidance on effective warm up exercises we have you covered. Head on over to our warm ups section for free tabs and walkthroughs here.
